6/22-6/26 Weekly Update

Good evening, Riptide families!

Happy Father's Day to all of our swim dads. We hope you enjoyed your day with the ones you love most!

Thanks for an AWESOME first meet at our home pool. The meet ran really smooth, and that is because of all of you and the help and expertise you provided. Our swimmers were amazing in the pool, and we raced hard against a really tough opponent. A couple of things to keep in mind as we near the midpoint of the season:

1) It will be normal for your swimmer to experience a bit of a lull in their race times (especially our older swimmers). Your swimmers have worked really hard, and the fatigue some of them will be feeling is a real thing. As you watch and cheer on their races, try and notice and complement their improvements in technique and/or effort. You don't have to be an "expert" to know what good swimming looks like :)

2) We fully understand that summer is a busy time. We do, however, want to stress the importance of attending practices as regularly as possible. We want our swimmers to experience growth in the pool, and the best way to get there is by practicing on a regular basis.

3) Families who have attended both night and morning practices may notice an imbalance in the amount of help our coaches can provide between the two. Most of our staff is available for morning practices, but not as much at our evening practices. We have been doing our best to staff both sessions as fully as possible, but please know that morning practices are a bit easier for us to provide the feedback your swimmer needs on a consistent basis.

With that, here is our week in review:

6/22: Your swimmer will be setting their yardage base for the week. There will be a lot of laps, and a lot of kicking. Look for your kiddo to be tired after practice.

6/23: Lower yardage with more speed expectation and higher rest intervals. This will help us to prepare for our meet Wednesday evening.

6/24: We WILL hold morning practices at our normal times, and we encourage families to attend this practice if possible. Maintaining a normal swimming routine will be important for our best work to show up Wednesday evening. Our meet is in Spring Green, with a start time of 5:30.

6/25: We WILL NOT hold any practices this day. Enjoy your day off!

6/26: With a long break between meets, we would like to offer something a little different for this mornings practices. This practice session will offer your swimmers with specific guidance on Starts, Turns, Finishes, and specific stroke instruction. We want to dedicate an hour to each age band, and the schedule will be as follows:

- 7:15-8:15: 11 and Overs

- 8:00-9:00: 9-10

- 9:00-10:00: 8 and Unders

This would be a great opportunity for your swimmer to learn and get better at the little things that count. Please consider bringing your swimmer this morning, as we will have as many coaches as possible on deck for that time span.

Thanks for your efforts, and thanks for allowing us to work with your kids. We are lucky to work with such an amazing group of young people. Go Riptide!
