Please continue to check back for updates. Looking forward to summer.
Hello Riptide Families
I hope you are all doing well. It’s been a challenging year, and it's been a long time since we all got together for summer swim team. I’m hopeful things will continue to get better as we move towards the summer months and the warmer weather. The plan for 2021 is to have a summer swim team program; however, due to the ongoing pandemic, things may look very different than what we all have been used to in the past. As you can imagine, planning the season has many challenges with lots of questions and many unknowns. I ask for your patience, understanding, and help as we try to navigate through the ever-changing situation of the “new normal” we are living in.
We want to keep everyone informed the best we can and lots of information is shared below. The primary email list being used is from 2019, so if you are no longer interested in being a part of Riptide you may just delete this message. If you are still interested, please take time to read all the way through and then check the team website for future updates. This is what is known as of right now, but this information is subject to change, and likely will.
Volunteer openings and board openings - As you all know, the Baraboo Riptide is a volunteer-run organization. We are in need of new people for volunteer positions to keep the program running for years to come. Many of our long-time volunteers have swimmers who have already aged out or will be aging out of the program. These volunteers will be leaving their positions and the program they have helped with for many years. It is very important that new people step in and learn about these positions so they can be filled as soon as possible. Volunteer positions include board members such as treasurer, website administrator, fundraising coordinator, concession coordinator and volunteer coordinator. Dedicated meet volunteer opportunities include positions such as head of clerk of course, officials, head timer, scoring operator, ribbon coordinator and meet announcer. If you have an interest in learning more about these opportunities or becoming a part of the Riptide board, please reach out or talk to any of the current board members to learn more. Without volunteer help, Baraboo Riptide will cease to exist. So, please, if you want to see Riptide continue for future swimmers or have a talent that would be helpful to the Baraboo Riptide, let us know.
Suit Fitting - As in the past we will work with Simply Swimming to get our team suits. We hope to schedule suit fitting in April. A local location and date still needs to be scheduled. To adhere to social distancing, you may need to sign up for an appointment to attend the suit fitting. Details about the suit fitting will be shared once it is known.
Swim Clinic - The optional swim clinic will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 6th to May 13th at the Baraboo Indoor Pool. . We are working closely with the Baraboo Indoor Pool on how to safely run the swim clinic. Swim Clinic will have a swimmer limit due to capacity restrictions at the indoor pool. Also, the indoor pool will have COVID protocols that will need to be followed.
Summer Swim - It is the intent of the Tri-County Conference to hold a summer swim meet season that includes dual meets only. Due to the ongoing pandemic, gathering restrictions, and facility concerns it was decided for the safety of all, there will be no formal end of season conference meet in 2021. We hope to bring the formal conference meet back in 2022.
Outdoor Pool - The City of Baraboo plans to open the outdoor pool this summer. The outdoor pool will have to follow guidance from the CDC and Sauk County Health Department. Capacity restrictions, social distancing, and mask wearing may be a part of the guidance.
Summer practices - Summer practice will begin on May 24th at the indoor pool until the outdoor pool opens for the season. The indoor pool will have COVID protocols that will need to be followed. We hope that summer practices at the outdoor pool will look the same as it has in the past. Given that practices are broken up by age groups, we hope this will help with any capacity restrictions the outdoor pool has to adhere to.
Saturday Meets - Planning for dual swim meets is the greatest challenge we face. As you all know, dual meets can be very large gatherings. As a team, we will have to form a plan that keeps the amount of people present in one location within any capacity restrictions and satisfies the Sauk County Health Department guidelines on large gatherings. Our plan is to allow spectators and offer concessions at meets. However, we might not all be able to gather on the pool deck at the same time and enjoy a breakfast burrito, as we have in the past. So please be understanding and be willing to offer help to a process that could see many changes as the season progresses.
Online Registration - Registration will be online only this year. You will have the option to participate in the swim clinic, but it is not a requirement. Due to unknown circumstances, there will not be any concession options presented during registration. If we are able to sell concessions at our home swim meets, more information will be provided when it is known. Everything else should look familiar as it has in the past with the exception of a COVID acknowledgement section. You will have the option to pay in full with a credit card or send a check as payment. The volunteer commitment deposit will still be required. We plan to open online registration on March 18th. An announcement will also be made on the team website.
Thank you for taking the time to read all the above information. More information will be shared as it becomes available and as we get closer to the start of the season. We are excited to have the opportunity to have a season in 2021, even though it will most likely look different. We hope things continue to improve as the planning process continues to move forward. Again, I ask for your patience, understanding, and help as we try to navigate through the many challenges to give our swimmers and their families a Riptide swim program this summer. I hope we see “normal” again sooner than later.
Information about swim clinic and summer season has been updated on the "Swim Options" tab. We are still working with the City of Baraboo on many items regarding the outdoor pool so practice times may be subject to change. The online registration form is being updated and will be open soon. An email will be sent to all past swim families in the near future and will also be posted as a news item. Please check back frequently for updates.
The Tri-County conference has approved a dual meet schedule for 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic and other concerns it has been decided to hold a dual meet season only. This means there will be no formal conference meet in 2021. We hope to return to holding a normal conference meet in 2022. The first dual meet is scheduled to take place on June 5th. Information about registration, suit fitting and a possible swim clinic is being worked on and information will be available soon.
The Baraboo Riptide and all other Tri-County Confernce teams intend to have a 2021 season. There are many questions and many unknowns at this time.
